Why didn't they just put a roundabout there and save themselves several years worth of future agro??  How many dead people is it going to take for them to do something like that? That new island in the A4 is just chaos waiting to happen! Roll eyes

They can't put a roundabout there any way, as they would have to take over the 2 houses on the corners to make the road wide enough for a proper roundabout - a mini one wouldn't work

They need motion sensor traffic lights so they change if anyone is trying to come out of the side roads

And another thing, the roadworks aren't very well laid out, I haven't been along that way for a few weeks, so it was quite a shock to suddenly have a pile of cones/signs in the middle of the road when I went to Chippenham late the other night.

They have no lights on them and are not very reflective

Most traffic lights have magnetic coils in the road to detect cars.
If you look at the tarmac as you approach, you will usually see either a diamond shape, or a rectangular shape. This is a coil of wire that detects cars. Hence why lights don't change for cyclists often.
Temporary traffic lights have motion sensors on top of them.

NOTE: Motion sensors do not detect headlamp flashes. So flashing headlamps at roadwork traffic lights will not make them change.   Roll eyes

You are certainly correct in your statement, Clunk and it's amazing how many people still do it. Me included sometimes!

If you have a motorbike, put your bike at an angle. Sometimes they have passive infra-red detectors. It will help if they can see the heat from the engine.

The new system is great if you are going from calne in to studley .how ever there will be one hell of a nasty accident there .the traffic islands are in direct line of your car when traverling to chippenham from calne.
going from studley across to derry hill is now very jagged.what dosnt help is all the long grass cos you cant see people coming. Roll eyes
