Stop
Look
Listen
At one point I'm sure every child from the age of four could tell you this - and adults!!
But it seems this method of safe road crossing has been discontinued, as I have yet to see anyone (and I include adults in this) cross the road safely and at proper points (at least within the past 5 years) - In fact I reckon only 10% of people cross the roads properly and safely.
I admit I'm not much of a pedestrian, yet when I do walk, before I cross a road, I look for a suitable place (a crossing if one is there) stop at the kerb, look both ways and listen for approaching traffic before I cross.
In the past week alone I have seen about 20 people cross the road about 10 yards from a crossing (Is it that much trouble to walk a little further and use it!?!?) and they just strolled into the road without looking.
I have seen about 10 parents drag their offspring across the road infront of moving vehicles.
Approx 15 children shoot out from behind parked cars on bikes and skateboards, and a further 10 or so, run across without stopping.
Pensioners are just as bad, They seem to stroll down the middle of the road aimlessly (I have seen about 12 of them)
I have had one walk out in front of me, whilst I was doing 30mph - He was lucky I was good with my emergency stop!!
It's not just in town centres I have seen this - I have seen it on busy roads where the speed limit is higher.
Does anyone cross the road properly anymore? Don't parents teach their children how to cross safely? Aren't schools teaching it?
RIP GREEN CROSS CODE!!!

| Do you know Kizzy you are right I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it but its true people do just step out into the road without looking they must have a death wish or something still if they carry on it might increase the IQ of the population because they will be removing themselves from the gene pool |

We live on the rat run for john bentley school, the kids walk in the middle of the road coming home from school, then shout abuse at drivers trying to pass them.
Even my dogs know when we come to the kerb they have to wait for us to say cross |

| I don't know either: it was a brilliant bit of saftey marketing and got children well aware of the dangers and how to cross properly.. That would be one campaign worth restarting I think. |
