Glenis Ansell won by 22 votes with Greg Widger (Conservative) in 2nd place.
Ellie Bland 3rd
Robert Baggs 4th (11% of the vote)
Brown 5th
The turnout was surprisingly high given the weather at 27%, 788 voters turned out. They ought to be thanked shame more could not be bothered!
I am personally pleased that the voters of Lickhill have returned a Lib Dem to the council. |

The Green party, like the Monster raving loony party, are mainly protest votes when people don't agree with the mainstream parties.
A 27% turnout is pretty poor though isn't it. :? Is this a normal turnout for local elections with widespread apathy? _________________

I agree the turnout at 27% is poor but I am afraid that it is pretty normal. In fact there has been bye elections in Calne where the turnout has been lower.
I feel that there is a case for compulsary voting as there is in Australia.
There is an argument that promotes the idea that electors only turnout when they are dissatisfied with the way their council/goverment are doing a bad job. So it could be said that the majority of residents of Lickhill Ward are generally happy with the council.
I am more concerned that 11% of the electorate felt happy to vote for the BNP. Robert Baggs is a decent local candidate but the party he stands for is not acceptable, perhaps he should stand as an independant. He might stand a better chance to be elected although he is tainted by his relationship with the BNP.
Why people can't be bothered to vote in town elections is a mystery so they should not complain about decsions made on their behalf! |

to be honest peter i think the way the country is going the bnp would do a good job.
i could never turn around and say that i agree with a party 100 per cent .many aspects of the bnp i do agree in .i dont agree in the hunting law though
depends what people want for me it would be
close the gates on the uk.stop refugees, alyslum seekers coming in,
if any foriener wishes to stay in this country he should do it off his own back they should not be allowed are nhs or benifits and housing.
get forieners to accept are religion and respect are culture,at presant it seems we are bending over backwards for other cultures. and religions.
ban burkas in the uk .
if they come here to live then they must learn english.
that would be my top ones . |

Local Lass what you are advocating denigns 1,000 years of English (oophs British) history. We have since the Norman invasion accepted the oppressed and homeless from around the globe and they in general has enriched our society and we (you and I) have benefited from it.
I would even argue that we as a former colonial empire have responsibilities towards our former "workers".
We as a nation accepted soldiers from around the world without whom we would never have come out on top. If that had been the case you and I could not be banding around ideas as we are!
This is not to say that I believe there should be no controls on immigration because patently there has to be. Whatever is in place has to be seen to be open and fair. |

I'm not singling out anyone particular, but I think many British citizens could do with brushing up on their spelling and grammar... |
