Doctors in England would love you .

Hey, I am not a fanatic. But over the last fourty years I travelled throughout the world, mostly NA. Years ago I noticed the fattening up of people in the USA. Now there is no difference between Canadians and Americans.

I tend to blame the over-weight trend on the rise of fast food outlets, and prepared commercial food in the supermarkets, cooking shows on TV, amongst other things.
MacDonalds, KFC, Wendys, Tim Hortons, Burger King, Harveys to name a few are repulsive to me, but I do eat there periodically when travelling if absolutely necessary. Reduction of excessive Fat Sugar and Salt should be the aim. This does not mean one should not enjoy food. All it means is a change in mind- set and habits.

When my five children left home around 20 years of age, none were over-weight. Now three of the five are more thn pleasantly plump. What happened? I take great delight in telling them that when they were under my care there were no fat kids.

I might add that one lives in Japan, and she is healthy, active, and fit. This I attribute to the lack of easily accessible junk food establishments.

so basically, you wish to force your children to be thin against their wills. Is it a superiority complex?

First of all am I to assume that superiority complex is harmful, not knowing anything about the complex?

I don't know a parent who doen't wish their children to be fit, active, and healthy. Thin is hardly an option with our present eating habits. Overweight is a major health problem throughtout the Western World. To pretend the problem doesn't exist is burying one's head in the sand.

That said and done, your response to the post lacks substance. What is your point, other than the knee jerk comment?

only you can do that ! eating is an addiction like alcohol or ciggerettes is ,people eat more than they should for a whole variaty of reasons  ,greediness ,boredom ,comfort etc.
i know as a kid we wasnt allowed to leave the table till we ate every thing on our plate even if your guts ached and was about to explode ,waste not want not and all that .
i would never force my kids to eat all there dinner if they didnt want to but they wouldnt get any thing else later on .
i think alot of people who have weight problems and iam not on about the odd 1/2 stone over weight its more sicological .look at that bloke who weighed 60 stone a first glance at him and you thought what a fat git  but when you heard what he had been through as a child he used food for comfort ,people like that need helping ,where is the help for obese ? they have  help for drug users  and  alcohol abusers .

i dont think being told to go to the gym or going swimming is the answer ,if your big the last place you want to go is swimming they would call green peace and get you thrown back in the sea ,or going to the gym where thin people is working out and your close on having a heart attack on the tred mill .just being more active in every day life will make a differance its a whole life change us fatties need,  not a 3 mth membership to the gym.
we should start a walking group !would anybody be interested ?
i go with a couple of friends once a week 630pm till about 8pm we walk in town ,around the country lanes along the cycle path where ever the mood takes us ,put the world to rights along the way it beats meeting up in a pub and sitting on our butts.
