Local..... Yes i meant Lord Lansdown.
Apparently he was pretty much on his knees asking for the planing to go through on those houses.
It's the only way he can finance the new hotel and leisure complex, he wants to build at the golf club.
Unfortunatley the plans were granted but they should have had some kind of juncture on them to make the developers redesign the road junction in the process !!.

Some big ones with a yellow fluorescent background and some slow-down strips painted in the road surely can't be that expensive/difficult to add?
Things such as altering the speed limit would take a while to get approved, and more radical changes (such as traffic lights or a roundabout) would probably adversely affect the traffic flow too much on that road having to stop and start up again, given that the junction is at the top of a hill. |
they have changed the signs quite recently on that road .there used to be a big white sign to say there was a cross roads there and where is was going now as you approach the crossroads the only sign to say that there is a right hand turn if you head towards chippenham is a small sign oppersite the junction stating studley.
the traffic lights may affect the flow of the road a little and with the hill being there can understand your concern .but what will happen if they build the houses behind the garden center on that field the traffic will become so much worse than it already is .
how many people have to die there before anything is done? |

ive always known him to be lord shelborne ,

and in doing so he has destroyed derry hill ,its a small rat run and you can hardley call it a village now.what amazes me is the fact that a high percentage of villagers did not want those houses to go ahead and yet there pleas was ignored,.
Unfortunatley the plans were granted but they should have had some kind of juncture on them to make the developers redesign the road junction in the process !!.

so why wasnt there a plan for the road when he was given permission?
not only that but when they hold events at bowood the crossroad is made even more dangerous. |

You'd have thought that there would have been a plan.
They ought to have special marshals in place for events to control traffic leaving/entering properly (like they do at places like Silverstone) - redesigning the junction to cope for infrequent events like that isn't worth it.
I hope that things do get changed there for sure. |

the problem is rosco with the hotel going up there will be more events that will get jam packed.
did you see the roads when the crime stoppers day was on there was a bollods in the middle of the a4 :? ques of traffic you couldnt get down studley turning because the cars where bumper to bumper and you couldnt get out of studley either.

there was talk at one time about putting traffic light in but the cost was to high , the amount of accidents i saw whilst waiting for the school bus there ,the worst one a car pulled out of studley to go towards calne straight in front of a moterbike coming from chippenham all you could see was the rider up in the air and the bike skiding on its side into the on coming traffic .
somthing needs to be done there its like taking your life in your own hands crossing the a4. |

sounds like there has been alot changing in Derry Hill - I was brought up there - 1974 (aged 6) to 1990.
It was a great village - I wish my lads could have the sma echildhood as I did there.
Last time I viisted in the mid 1990's i was amazed that the woods were vitually untouched - in my day it was the main playing area if you were between about 6 and 15.
Ah well. It's all progress. |

we used to play on the net in the wood..im not sure you can go in the woods now as from studley cross road to the other side of derry hill is just one huge block of houses.
they have even flatened one of the humps in the playing field
Derry hill has trip;ed in size to what it was and is now no different than being on one of the estates in calne.
the only thing that hasnt changed is the shop its still run by sonia and simon. |
