in the gazette there is a article telling us that the people in calne will have a 15% rise in council tax due to the sports center re opening.as the council have given them money.
does this change your veiw of it reopening?

I'd understood that the whole idea of it reopening was that it was being privately funded: are Calne people that have contributed to help it open now paying twice?

It does seem a very big hike just for that, are there not other issues in the town that need sorting?

I would object to paying for a service I wasn't using.

Its a bit of a cheeck when it is ment to be privately run and yet the calne people will still have to pay for it like it or not.

Each year when you receive your council tax bill you are sent a breakdown of how the money is spent and if my memory serves me well about 66% goes to the Wiltshire County Council and less than 10% to the Calne Town Council. Now for there to be a 15% increase in council tax solely because of the Leisure Centre, a town council funded project, alledgedly, the Town Council portion of the council tax would have to increase by over 150% which I'm sure cannot be correct. It is more likely to be a 15% increase in the Calne Town Council portion of the council tax which works out as an overall increase of less than 1.5%. Interesting how figures can be presented in totally different lights depending how you say it.
