I've not seen much of the plans, but where is the Woolworths going to go? are there any other shops being built along with it?
I think part of the problem attracting larger stores to Calne is that there aren't many large shop premises to move into, although it's obviously a bit of a chicken and egg situation. Nevertheless, there's nothing really available that's the size of, say, WHSmiths in Chippenham.

From what i understand they are knocking down kwik save and the flats above it.this is where wool worths will go.
The little garden at the back of the christian book shop will be opened up in to a garden where people can sit and have have lunch.
Above woolworths they are intending to build 16 flats. The thing about this though is that they are only providing 10 parking places
I will see if i can find a link with some better information on regarding the plans . _________________ Regards

I found this link which has more info:

doesn't actually look that bad.. I agree that 10 parking spaces is a bit poor.. |

i was talking to someone about the parking decision .he said they decided to do it like that because the flats will be affordable housing(council houses).aparrently statistics show that only 1 in 3 houses have a car so by right out of the 16 flats there should only be five cars and they decided to give them a extra three car parkings spaces.
i would love to know where they get that from. |

| Only 1 in 3 houses have a car. Good grief those must have been the statistics from the 1980s everywhere I have lived recently has had more like at least 1 per house. |

I think that would be pretty accurate for poorer people in this country. _________________ LIKE A NIGHT OUT IN SWINDON

I have a 'nice' car, but it is an 11 years old Vauxhall Astra that a lot of people would call a shed.
My next door neighbour however, had an S reg Volvo. This imho is a bit pricey for a single mum to drive. I think Daddy pays for it. |
