Caln Township was formed by people from our town in Pennsylvania... so I'd say it's very important _________________ LIKE A NIGHT OUT IN SWINDON

| I think it's quite useful for things like exchange students and things like that; in theory it gives local groups and societies a link with an equvalent group in another country, so, for example, we could have friendly sports matches with our twinned towns if we wanted... |

| The point is though that we dont seem to do anything with our twins. Now call me an old cynic but am I correct in thinking that some of the local councillors duties might lead them to have to visit our twins on occasion. |

There should be more than that to it: I have lived in other places where they do arrange visits between citizens of the different places. While not something major or vitally important for a town, I think it is useful to see how other places are run: dobtless they have ideas that we could use over here and vice-versa.
Caln in the US particularly seems like an interesting place to visit sometime! |

Believe it or not the twinning association is one of the better "clubs" in Calne. It has a thriving group of people who regularly meet up socially and go away every year together to one of our twin towns. And every year one or two of the twins come here.
Although i am not a member i have close family ties with some of the group and have met people from all over the world and have friends from other "cultures " that have really opened my eyes to how small this world really is.
The Caln Township (Near Philidelphia) is in a really historic part of the U.S. It was one of the first townships in the US and some of the Calne "names" still exixt in the area. Pym's, Swaddens and Westons all still exist over there from the original Calne roots.
It's a good thing i think that English, French and American's can all come together under one roof and be civilised, share cultures and learn and be friends with each other. |
