a couple of my mates have them, the graphics are rubbish, the gameplay is bad, waste of money.

Buy an X-Box 360 instead, it's not that much more expensive, and the graphics and games are fantastic, more numerous, and the online play is excellent.

WRONG
I have seen these in action, Kizzy has one. I wish I could afford one.
BUT
Nothing will ever out preform a PC when it comes to games.
The best thing about a PC is if you buy a new one, you already have 100 million games and software applications to choose from.
In comparison, the original X-box had 15 games at release.

Wii - Local Lass would be excellent for your son, it is aimed at children and are great fun for them to play.  Adults do also enjoy it and it's more interactive than other consoles.

If you are after great graphics then a PS3 or a XBOX 360 would be right up your street, however you do need a HD TV to appreciate the quality of the graphics.  However these are aimed more at older gamers.

STFC you can't be that much of a geek as there are quite a lot of people who have a PS3 and are online with them - my partner is always playing online with other people from all around the world (do you mean none of your friends have one?)

Clunk - Only if you have a very expensive PC, which would actually be more expensive than a PS3 or Xbox 360

Kizzy - Nowhere near as many people have PS3 as people with xbox 360. I have friends with PS3's, terrible consoles. And I am a geek, I'm a halo 3 officer, advanced at I.T. and addicted to xbox 360... doesn't make me a geek now?
