My main hobby is field sports. I like the discipline of clay pigeon shooting which is a very addictive sport. I am also a member of a shooting syndicate which runs a walked up shoot of pheasants and other wild game.

I do like sea fishing but because I don't live that near the coast it is only a couple of times a year if I'm lucky. I am however going out wreck fishing on the 29th June from Weymouth. I will let you know how I got on.

The art of clay pigeon in not just about pulling the trigger. It's all about foot placement and stance in relation to the target, then you have to have a good swing and then give your target a certain amount of lead before pulling the trigger. When you consider that there is about a level teaspoon of lead shot (about 300 balls of 1.8MM shot in No8 size) in a shotgun cartridge and you are aiming at something which may be 40 yards away, imagine how big the gaps are in your shot pattern as it approaches the target - at 40 yards your shot pattern may well be 1.5m wide (dependant on what choke you are using). All this twaddle you see in the films where huge holes being blasted by shotguns is mostly hollywood stuff, it's a bit more technical than that in clay pigeon shooting.

Sounds very technical. I think I would prefer a target that stayed still. Used to do tunnel shooting with the RNA in the Devizes League many years ago when my eyesight was better. That was good fun.

Archery is quite a technical sport as well. You have to have the correct stance and footwork to go with the correct posture for holding the bow. Aiming the arrow is an art in itself!

My first taste of Field Sports was with an old girlfriend on the Marlborough Downs but we wont go into that although I will say it was more fun than clay pigeon shooting or archery
