Witness Melanie Chase, who lives above the bank, said: "I was in the bath when I heard someone shouting 'Get down, Get down' and then I heard three shots. I looked out the window and saw blood everywhere on the floor. It was horrible."
Lynn Ward, who works at the Alexander Keen estate agent next door to the HSBC branch in Bournemouth Road, said: "I heard a loud bang ring out and initially thought it must be a traffic accident.
"But when I looked out of the window I saw a security van and two people on the floor with armed police stood over them. It was chaos and there was lots of shouting and screaming."
A statement released by the Independent Police Complaints Commission confirmed investigators are to attend the scene.
The Flying Squad specialises in tackling armed robbers and often lies in wait for gangs as a result of tip offs. |
What do you reckon? Is this just a legal way of eradicating thieving scum from our streets by fighting fire with fire or a terrible loss of life? No doubt we will all hear about how they were "lovable rogues" who never did anybody any harm and they just got mixed up with the wrong sort, etc.

Further articles say that the two shot were holding a security guard hostage at the time and the gang had been involved in about 25 robberies, so they certainly seem to have been "rogues" though the lovable would still seem to be in doubt. :?
Not so much eradicating scum but just taking appropriate steps when a crime is in progress, it seems to me at least. |
