For a cheap but enjoyable day out I would recommend driving to Monkton Combe and parking at the Dundas Aqueduct. (there is a car parking charge although when we visit during half term the meter was out of order so parking was free)
From here you can walk (or cycle) the tow path along side the Kennet & Avon canal. You can chose to head towards Avoncliffe where there is another aqueduct (this is what we did) and that takes about 1 1/2 hours of a steady but not strenous walking.
At Avoncliffe there is the Guns & Roses pub or a little cafe with outside tables. We ate at the cafe and 2 good portioned meals with a couple of beers and a desert cost under £25.00. You can take a picnic if you are organised.
The other direction takes you towards Bath and this is a walk we have yet to complete.
I recommend a walk along the canal the views are excellant and there is something magic about watching these canal boats poodle up and down the water.

We went there for the first time this year and were also pleasantly surprised.
There is a bike hire and boat hire centre with a nice cafe aswell ..... and if your feeling adventurous ... just along the road is the Bath furniture mill .... which is the most bizzare place i have ever shopped at .... you wander around this vast complex full of beds and sofas etc (whci hare very cheap) and stumple accross things like AC Cobras and rolls royces ... it's just weird but cool. |

I've only ever heard good things about this pub but I have never been there yet. Maybe sometime soon. _________________
