The Wiltshire Archaeology and natural history society is based at the Devizes museum.
If your interested in this kind of thing, then it's well worth joining.
You get access to the museum for free anytime and there are talks, lectures visits and educational opportunities if you want to learn more about the local area, it's history and it's people.
They also have a feild group, which goes out to areas of interest and literally walk the fields looking for objects and areas generally not know about before.
I've joined and have been to a morning session identifying pottery and the like from the roman town of Verlucio (sandy lane) very interesting.
If you know of somewhere to look, or have a bi of land which you'd like to be looked at (or metal detected) let me know.
Also have a look at this site http://www.wiltshireheritage.org.uk/
