Portsmouth ferry terminal is approx 77 miles away so how about a day trip to France.
At this time of the year there are some fantastic markets  selling seasonable produce and presents. St Malo is a fantastic place with anold walled city (albeit rebuilt after WW11) with great restaurants, especially if you like fish/seafood.

Although I suspect that this would be over 100 miles I would suggest that it is an excellant excursion and well worth considering.

You can also go from Poole to the Channel Islands on Condor ferries, althought not in the winter. A great trip in May or June.

It's certainly worth a thought, Peter. I've done the Weymouth to Guernsey catamaran ferry which takes about 2 hours each way.

surely you can enter into the "fantasy" of this topic. in any event I holiday in the uk and in europe.
a wide range of experiences helps to make a rounded person.  Xenophobia is not a healthy point of view in anyones book.

I have been holidaying in Britain since 2000 and I've yet still to visit the far flung reaches of east Anglia and the outer Hebrides.
