Just what is the point of them now?
No one wins or loses.
I used to hate the track events at sports day but at least they were competitive now its just a total waste of time>

Couldnt agree more the idea that there are no winners or losers on sports day does not prepare children for the real world where there most certainly are

Children by nature are competitive in their behaviour so having a cportsday where nobody loses and wins is just a pointless excercise. Perhaps this is why british sport has been steadily going down hill for the last 10 years or so. :?

One year when I was at school I was forced to enter the mile walk because you had to do one track event and I was awarded a house point for trying and the guy who won the race got a minus house point for not trying this was because we all strolled around together for the first three laps and only competed on the last one. There must be a moral to this story but I cant think what it is.

I loved sports day at primary school but hated it at Bentley.

I only ever got to do javelin and that was because they couldn't get anyone else to do it for our house - I never got chosen for anything else even though I was reasonably good at it, which I think made me negative towards PE. I felt there was no point in doing any of the lessons if you never got a chance to compete for your house at the end of the year.

Cool i can remember sports day at Dunstan all the parents would be watching on the side lines as we done egg and spoon race ,long jump ,and hurdles. And the time we done the tug of war between pupils and a couple of teachers and the rope snapped and it flicked back hitting Jeramy Humphries in the face .It always seemed boiling hot when we done sports day not like now when they have to keep posponing it due to bad weather.

Funny enough. I remember the rope snapping and it hitting keith foley in the face. What a wonderful shiner he had. I will double check it was keith foley, but am sure it was.
