I think the Bath & West show is grossly overpriced to get in. I haven't bothered going for quite a few year now because of the ridiculous entry fee. I opt instead to go to the Frome Cheese and Agricultural show which is in September and half the entry fee. It has all the same sort of attractions as the Bath & West but at a more manageable amount.

The quality of competition in the veg section is fantastic. The onions are huge and the leeks are nearly 4 inches at the base!  There are also so many free samples going of cheese and other food produce that half the time you are too full to bother having anything else. I tried a very nice creamy ewes cheese last year followed by a goat milk stilton style cheese. The main cheese hall at the Frome show is similar in size to the Calne sports centre badminton courts hall - all full up with dozens of different cheeses.
