Whew Kathy.  You really Are ! off with him.  I think this needs a new topic heading - "wastes of space of the human race"? or other?  how about it?

GTB: Self harm can be all kinds of things, but I think being tipsy and breaking a leg is not among the various ways and means.  Self harm comes down to being deliberately harmful or reckless as to whether you get harmed, doesn't it?  If a guy goes riding his bicycle down a woody hill to get thrills and he comes off and breaks his legs, that is not deliberate.  He didn't intend to break his legs.  If the same guy jumps from a motorway bridge in front of a busy flow of traffic I would say he was intent on getting hurt.

If someone gets a tattoo done and then changes their mind, tough.  That is self harm, or self inflicted even if someone else did it to them.

The line is not so broad I think, though there are bound to be cases where the line is straddled and it is difficult to make a call either way.

The BIGGEST waste of NHS funding........
....supplying bl**dy junkies with METHADONE  :mumum:

Most (if not all) of the skagg heads can usually be seen, and sometimes broadcasting the fact that they have "got their script", and later in the same day STILL go to their dealers!
My personal opinion is, depending upon how they got hooked in the first place, they get one chance to get straight with all the help available. If they relapse, stop helping them, why waste even more money?

Block:  I hear you and I can tell there is much vehemence in your words.  Have you been affected by heroin use personally?  It can be a devestating drug for more reasons than are fathomable to anyone who has not been caught in even the perifery of its shadow.

No, not personally.
I just don't see any sense whatsoever in helping people that can't or won't help themselves. The majority of junkies on skagg got there by their own choice, beit from being weak willed or just experimenting.
I have met with one lad in his twenties that had got clean, and the reason he was hooked in the first place was because his mother injected him when he was a teenager when he was drunk.
My opinion (and it is my opinion) is that people hooked on this poison always opt for the easy option and fall back to their dealers because it's easier to get a fix than it is to get clean.
And no, I don't have time for junkies.

Block:  I am cleaner than most in my habits concerning drugs.  My biggest drug I take, and I do enjoy it very much on a daily basis, is tea.  I also enjoy chocolate on occasions, both as a drink and a confection.

Heroin is pretty nasty in that it is so moorish and is now so easy to obtain.  I know of several people who got into four or five of them sharing a £10 bag, instead of the same lot sharing a £30 bag of weed, to relax together in the evenings.  They had been taught at school that "drugs are bad" and that was essentially it.  They had no idea that weed and heroin are more than worlds apart.  Both come from plants, both are imported (usually), both are illegal and both relax whoever takes them.

It's an interesting thing that since we invaded and occupied Afghanstan (where about 90% of Europe's heroin comes from (most often via Kosovo and the mafia) since the invasion) heroin production there is higher than at any time known in history.

Kids on the street who are using heroin often need programmes which are not available to them.  Loads of the money is used to criminalise them, even though the act of using an illegal drug is illegal, it is not (in itself) anti-social or inherently bad behaviour.  Social trends and norms change over relatively small bands of time and only 100 years ago heroin was as legal as tobacco is now, perhaps more so.

There is a far more scary chemical being proposed by the government to be put into all our drinking water, following some legislation a few years ago which changed the law leading to this.  I am talking about fluoride.  A few years ago the government made it law that if a water company was asked to add fluoride to the drinking water of a region then the company had to obey and do so.  I called Wessex Water (our regional water supplier) and mentioned this.  They assured me that they would resist and that it was highly unlikely as Wessex Water comes under two trusts not one and they'd have to agree.  NOW the government is pushing for ALL NHS trusts to get fluoride in our drinking water.

Fluoride, for those who don't know, is a highly toxic compound made up from the world's most reactive element - fluorine - and that which is put into drinking water is industrial waste which is very expensive to dispose of.  Toothpastes which contain it (most) use a pharmaceutical grade.  BOTH are highly reactive in living organisms and can affect developing organisms (children and teens) down to the chromosomal level. Heavy stuff!

Compared to fluoride, heroin's effects are transitory.
