One lunchtime last week i took my elderly mum out for a drive in the sunshine and we were cominh back through Cherhill and we rermembered the Black Horse had had an advert in the Town Crier the week before saying new lunchtime menus (2 courses for 5.95) now available and under new management, so we went in to try it seeing it was hot and we didnt want a full meal at lunchtime.
We went in about 1210 and asked for menus and sat and read them, after a few mintues i went to the bar and asked about the specials they advertised as they were not listed anywhere, the bloke behind the bar went , errr ill check, he came back a few minutes later with just one specials menu, so we shared it and chose what we wanted and i went to order a couple of minutes later. About 5 minutes after we ordered my mum asked if she could change the chips wiht her meal for new pots, but got told no as they had started to cook it already so we left it as was. After waiting 30 mins i went to enquire where the food was only to be told it should be with us soon, i pointed out that 25 mins ago we tried to change the order for new pots but they acted as if i hadnt asked. Well another 15 mins later the food finally arrived, this was now almost 50 mins since we ordered. What food there was was cooked ok but even my elderly mother who hasnt got a big appetite commented the portions were very small. I know it was the so called budget lunchtime special but they were like small childrens portions.
We then waited a good half an hour after that for the sweets to arrive (2 ice creams i mean how long does it take with a scoop to put some in a bowl) and even the wafers were very soft. All in all we was there for a little under 2 hours, so will be a very long time before i venture in there again.

odd you say that biggles as  friend of mine had exactly the same experience and ended up walking out.
they had booked the meal for five people and and when they got there they found that there was only a table of four .they had to put a extra chair on the table what ended up to be on the path of the walk way.
service was extremely slow and 30 minutes after there order was taken the waitress said that they had run out of beef.
they also did not have half of the menu.

my friend used to run the Talbot inn so knows how busy pubs can get .
it was the first time ever she has walked out of the pub.
