Anti social behaviour.
As some of you may have gathered from my posts on other sections in this forum I am not a spring chicken and can therefore remember back many years. In the 50s we had teddy boys, the 60s mods & rockers followed in the late 60s early 70s by skinheads greasers and in the late 70s punks followed by various groups of youths some tagged with names by the press and some not up to the current batch of youngster who are called various names hoodies being the most popular. They all had one thing in common, they wanted to rebel against society therefore becoming anti social. In my opinion the only thing that is different is the level of behaviour. When we say there is nothing for the kids to do we forget that when we were you the only thing we wanted to do was hang around with our mates possibly on street corners or in parks drinking beer or what ever not doing organised stuff like a Youth Club or a Leisure Centre because we needed to rebel. It is also true that many activities which are put on for kids were ruined by them I can remember the seats in Calne cinema being slashed and punch ups at discos in the town hall and up the woodlands 40 plus years ago. So when you see those kids on the street tonight try and remeber what it was like being a teenager when everyone was teling you how to behave and try and remember how you felt.
But most of all remember that youth is most definetly wasted on the young.

It is so easy to blame every one except ourselves, if "you/I" are unhappy with the system then do what we did get off your backside and do something about it. The result is the new leisure centre where kids of all ages are welcomed (what it is not is a baby sitting service).

I assure everyone that all the 3 tiers of councils will fall over backwards to help with any community incentive to entertain teenagers.
Members of the community have to plan, promote and instigate  but there are funds out there to obtained.

Be positive and don't wait for someone else.

Sorry Peter, but i totally disagree with you one this one.

Hubby and i spent many evening walking around the town talking to the kids asking what they wanted from calne, most wanted the bowl fixed up so they could use it, we then had a meeting with the council, police and other formal bods, everyone agreed something should be done, as ive said we offered our business labour free to help the kids with the work. the council said NO, they are paying a stupid amount of money and TWO years later its still not done  Roll eyes
We even offered to run a cafe sort of thing down there, again NO
so sorry peter, whilst there may well be some on the council that would be willing to listen and help jo public get something better done for calne, they are few and far between.
Whilst at another meeting about the bowl, where we weny to see the work that had already been done ( a new fence, that cost thousands !!) even the police laughed at the amount the council had paid!

i think kathy has a good point there.

bear i hear what your saying but its still no excuse for anti social behaviour.
kids these days havnt got the imagination what they did have .when i was growing up we didnt need computer games or tellys we would be building dens, playing polo,40 40 in games what only aquires people .

the kids do need more to do something that they can also work at and be  involved in.

The only difference I can see between teenagers now and going back 15 years when I was 14, is that teenagers have a lot more attitude and rights.

I used to go drinking, I used to hang around town, I used to hang around play parks, but I was not abusive to any body else - especially adults, I did not have the desire to vandalise peoples property, I did not see the need for violence, I may have been loud on occasions, as most children are - I respected everyone and everything around me, I never disobeyed my parents, I never backchatted them.  I was too scared to, scared of the Police, scared of getting a criminal record or being locked up, and most of all scared of my parents reaction if I did anything like that.

So the teenagers nowadays are just doing what I did 15 years ago(hanging around town, drinking etc) but they do it with attitude because they know in the end all they'll get is a teling off or a special bit of paper with ASBO on it.  There is no real threat of punishment.  There is nothing to scare them into behaving.

couldn't agree more, kizzy. The problem is now-a-days the yobs parents dont care where they are or what they are doing! (by yobs i mean the ones that are out to cause trouble and damage to whatever or who ever they want) They get away with it because they other kids are to scared to name them, and even if you know who they are......what can you do about it.
I'd love to meet the lad that beat up my son........ one dark night in a nice alley, when he gets out of nick again!!!
