No.
Americans are stoopid.
Once we arm our police we're on a slippery slope. |

| Can't see a need for it either - I've never felt comfortable when abroad talking with armed cops. |

I think you will find that there are a lot more armed police about than you think. I don't see a need for the "normal" police to be armed outside of the metropolitan area of Greater London yet because I think once they tool up they will raise the stakes with the scum that they are trying to catch.
According to a police friend of mine, only two live rounds of ammunition have been used against an assailant so far in Wiltshire by the police - and the marksman missed with both shots. This was only a couple of years ago during a seige in Trowbridge. _________________

I fully agree GTB and I think most people would be amazed at the number of armed vehicles driving around Wiltshire especially when we have a visit from Royalty. |

There are something like 30,000 deaths a year in the USA due to small arms fire ("if they weren't so fat they'd make smaller targets" says Mark Thomas).
Armed police here in UK? Big fat hairy NO! _________________ Democracy is dead. |

Oh yeah, and from what I was told by a local copper, 2 of every 3 US police officers who are shot are done so with their own weapons! _________________ Democracy is dead. |

Yes, I'd heard that too - a quick search on Google has shown up a few sites saying 75% of cops get shot with their own weapon, and 95% of civilians are shot with theirs! I'm not sure how correct those values are, but certainly a worry and a reason not to introduce more guns onto the streets (albeit legally). |

Clunk - that poster is hilarious! Nice one. LOL
On a more serious note, arms sales from the UK are second only to the USA. Some of these arms sales end up back in the UK in the hands of drug gangs and human traffickers.
It is a myth that we benefit from arms sales abroad, whether it is in the form of landmines, specialist ammunition or armed and combat ready war planes, we all, man woman and child, subsidise the arms industry to the tune of around £900 million per year. That's more than the Millennium Dome cost, every year. _________________ Democracy is dead. |
