Peter, you clarified your opinion at the beginning of January.

In February you tried to make us believe that you had no bias either way.

Now, in April, you are against it again.

It is difficult to believe anything you say as you appear to have been less than candid about your position on this matter throughout this debate.

| Could I make a proposal that instead of the Union Jack or even the flag of St. George we fly the Saltire in honour of all the exiled Scots living in this country who have put the Great into Britain |

Yes there are many rules and regulations governing coucillors and their meetings, some are a pain but they are all there to safeguard the general public ie you & I.

My father in laws flags (Union Jack & St.George's cross) have been flying for well over a decade and only come down to be replaced, so I don't see why the council has an issue with it.
Surely, out of respect for our servicemen and women that are ordered to fight abroad it wouldn't hurt to fly it? And to have it at half mast when the bodies of those unfortunate soldiers are returned?
The cost, isn't much of an issue if they can waste £26k on fencing, is it? (re:the bowl)
As my father in law said, he's proud to be British, shame some councilors aren't. |

| As an ex serviceman who served for UN/NATO/GB in Bosnia and NI I think it is disgraceful not just for the likes of the serviceman but for the public and tourists. When I went to Canada on a 6 week training exercise there was a 4 hour trip from the airport to the exercise location and the amount of canadian flags I saw was incredible, it made me think about how proud the canadian public is and it gave me such a feel good factor. I guess tourists/public may not feel like I did then, because as a country we are not a proud nation unless we are a global success in some sport tournament. |

I'd noticed when I visited Canada the large number of flags that they have too, but my take on it is that they are less secure as a nation and feel that they have to fly the flag at every point imaginable just to remind themselves that they are Canadians.
I personally feel pleased to live in a country that doesn't see the need to show the flag everywhere, but reserves it for special occasions. |

At work I sit next to a Canadian and passed him your comment above. The gist of his response was that Canadians like British people are very proud as a nation and not less secure. He told me, on behalf of Canadians as a nation, that your comments are imprudent and ridiculous.

The Government don’t reserve it for special occasions and are encouraging owners of public buildings with flag poles to follow suit. Many other towns have but, against the will of the majority of Calne people, Calne won’t. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion over this and in a democratic society, with something as simple as flying a flag from the Town Hall, the Council should surely follow the wishes of the majority of our Town and the direction of our Country's government. |
