Wetherspoons are not poncy slug and lettuce bars, they sell cheap booze and cheap food, however it is welcoming to see the Landlord of the Kings Arms welcome it, rather than oppose it, as some people wouldn't go to any old pub, but with a Wetherspoons (McDonalds of the pub world), you know what you are getting. Then when you've had a couple of pints there, you wander outside, and say "hey, Calne isn't so bad at night, I'll go to the Kings Arms or White Hart".
I admit I have been here for 1 year, and haven't (yet) managed to go out for a few pints in the middle of town, I have 2 small kids, and getting a "pass out" is quite hard. |

And what would it be called? (Wetherspoons always name their pubs after a local link)...
The Bacon Factory?
The Pork Arms
Pig and Fiddle (aka Fig and piddle when you've had a few, mind) |

All that spring to mind for me is....... "Buds".
They had bouncers too. It just adds to the entertainment of some of the sad cases in calne. To "Bag a Bouncer".
The residents in Church street put up a right old fight when somerfield wanted to put another sign up outside there shop ...... what they going to think when it's announced a pub is going to be there !!
He he love it ......... |

look at the complaints when they wanted to put a chiense resturant in the town from the residents of chuch street.
it was stupid.
i think it will do the town good and help move the town forward. |

You can understand those in Church street, in terms of where would people park to get to the Pub, the site has no parking facilities on it and Church Street is already congested with people trying to park there. |

I have said nothing about church street moaning about car parking.
:?
but if weather spoons do come to town there is the bottom sainburys car park all they would have to do is walk over the bridge, there is the car behind the buildings the other side of there.
there is also somerfield carpark.
at the end of the day the place has around five car parks all in walking distance so i dont see the parking issue at all :? |
