Should England be managed by an Englishman or should the F.A. plump for Scholari or Mourinho?

To be honest I can't think of someone with an English passport who would want the job let alone be suitably qualified for the post. The only present English manager of a Premiership side who would come close is Harry Rednapp but he has very little experience of managing football in the European arena (UEFA, Champions league, etc). All this talk about Alan Shearer being touted as the next manager by some pundits is just sheer folly - the man was one of the greatest centre forwards England has produced but he has no experience of being a manager at senior club level. It wasn't that long ago that Brian Robson was being lined up as the next manager until he had a few bad results and was dropped from the list.

Back to your original question: I don't think we have any choice in the nationality of the applicant because he certainly isn't going to be English. Marcello Lippi is a very good manager, and has just won the world cup with Italy but has little hands-on contact with English football (apart from when he was manager of Juventus playing against Man Utd). My first choice would be Mourinho. He has a very good in-depth knowledge of the English game, the mind-set of the national players and isn't afraid of making tactical substitutions which might seem contraversial.

O.k - Lets put it this way :- Would it be right if Fabregas, Torres, Henry, Lehman or Ronaldinhio played for England. Yes they might be a good team then but they're not english and would never consider themselves english. So why should an italian or any toher national represent england as our manager, it's just saying to the world.... "we have managers but they're all crap" !

I think it does matter you have to have english players  to play for england so why not a english manager.
There is a great lack of talent of people who are up for the job but whos to blame there are to many foriegn players .in english leauge.

An interesting argument, Chepfer, however, there is no legal reason why a country cannot appoint a foreign manager to lead out the national team and your reasoning seems to be more based on national pride rather than tactical logic. Who would you suggest we have as our next manager?
