if the money is managed properly then it should go quite a long way |
Keep it how it is... I can speak. I go there twice a week.
I would rather the money be spent on the poor people of Calne.

struggling or unable to pay for taxes, children, or similar
nearly everyone in calne could fit in to that catogory.at some point.
at present i have heard a lot of junkies use that area, if they could sort that out it would be a start.the time now has come for people to protect calnes fields as so many has dissapeared due to all the building. |

It is, indirectly.. it's being spent on a resource that the whole town is free to use.
The money was awarded for that purpose - if we went to the lottery fund and said "we want the money to give to poor people" they may not have given us it - £68,600 spent on something the whole town can use is better than £68,600 not being spent at all.
I agree tho, work needs to be done to keep it looking nice and stop it getting wrecked, but it should make a good replacement for the big grass area opposite the strand that everyone used to sit out on before the town centre was rebuilt.
nice photos btw |

the grass area oppersite the strand was great on sunny days.
spend many a happy time there.
the problem is why is it getting wrecked prime location for drugs and kids hanging about.
can they close it of at night?
castle fields is a very pretty place in the summer and a asset to calne.
one thing i find odd though is the gyn equipment round it i dont see the point in that.
from what i understand its mainly for st marys school.
on the one hand castle fields is a peacefull place perfect for walking your dogs and enjoying a stroll next to the river and the local wildlife.
on the other its littered with unsightly gym equipment which on the whole is covered in grafitti |

that's true.. it's partially down to the location though.. I mean it's quite out the way compared to somewhere like the Recreation ground, which has a clear line of sight from lots of houses around it.
The diagram on this site - http://www.calne-castlefieldspark.co.uk/Castle%20mound%20plan.htm - shows a fence around the area, but whether it will be something that's lockable, and also whether there will be a "park warden" to actually lock it, is another issue. |

My original understanding was that the work was only for the Castle Mound area, which the link attached also shows as the case, not the whole CastleFields area.
I don't think that the area will be lockable: the fencing looks like it will be sturdy two-bar wooden fence that you can climb over if you want to. Maybe a warden and a lockable area is definitely something to consider.
I've seen other public areas have gym equipment put on them, the idea is that people use them for circuit training, though I'm not convinced that many people do in Calne.
I think that the mound is a more accessible area than the Rec: it is certainly more obvious and a casual visitor to Calne would be unlikely to wander up Anchor road and discover it. The plan does seem to be well thought out, I look forward to seeing it implemented. |

The plans look good but i see that they intend to put art work in the site which is fine but will they spend a ridculas amount on something where the money could go go into the planting of more flowers.
personally i do like the face in town but at 38,000 it is a ridiculas amount of money to spend.
couldnt the local shops help by donating flowers and shrubs.?
the clearing on top of the mount would be good there could be a lot done with that.
why are they going to have metal seating why not wood?metal is fine for the first year but it begins to look crap after that. |
