What is wrong with pressing the print screen button then pasting it in paint?

Always used to do that, but you can't capture certain parts of the screen... for example, an MSN window.

I send a lot of screenshots.

Paint also means another window open which is irritating, because I'm usually running various programs.

My msn windows appear fine in it.
Personally, I look through the conversation logs if I want something of msn.
Perhaps you have a crap computer. Either that or it is a P.E.B.C.A.K. fault.

that is a shot of a whole screen - what if I wanted to take a screenshot of say, my display picture, and absolutely nothing else?

with normal print screen, everything is fine, and looks perfectly clear. Snag it allows to take a screenshot of a single letter if you want for example... I could take one of this letter ú and send it to my mate webber and he would see nothing else in the screenshot.

I also use the logs... I have other purposes for using screenshots.

My computer has 1 GB of RAM, and a good processor... hardly crap?

I have ben using Snag-It for about 15 years. It is the most amazing little program, that I ever encountered. It is not free. I actually purchased it and always have it on my desktop for easy access.

Often stuff on the web is an image and one wants to capture a portion of the information. This is where Snag-it shines.

The capture is an image; and text, for example, cannot be edited.
Ctl>Shift>P and enjoy.

Cut and paste.

Sorry, but I do not see the point in paying for a piece of software, that will do something that windows does straight out the box.
Granted, for multiple screenshots, you have to paste the image each time. For that, I use Ifranview.

You missed the point. With Snag-it you can take any portion of the screen. Windows takes the whole screen. There is a big differnce.

Before you can Cut and Past you must be able to select the area desired. This is often not possible on many web pages. Try to select your tool bar with Cut and Paste. It simply cannot be accomplished with Cut and Paste.
