HI all
I posting this article to get support to stop the developement of land adjacent to white horse way and silver street in Calne.
Lord Lansdowne is trying to sell the land and C G fry & sons are appling for the land to be developed with up to 202 houses.
The following must to be taken into consideration
Traffic control and Increase in traffic - the silver street road is very busy and can be lengthy to exit both in the evening and the morning, by added houses to this area this will compound this issue. This also effects the traffic along the A4
If a traffic study has been done please give details of date and time when conducted as this road is constantly busy and i cannot see how this development can be considered.
THIS EFFECTS EVERYONE WHO LIVES ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF CALNE
Proposed junction - the Junction proposal is for White Horse Way this is a long straight road which is prone to vehicles travelling at excess speed adding a junction to this will increase the risk of accidents. This is the main road to the only secondary school in Calne increasing the risk of accidents to children. the road is too wide and straight now -allowing excessive speed.
Flooding - this site has been a very high risk site for flooding and white horse way is subject to flooding. The land is constantly marshy/boggy especially up through the wooded area.
Landscape - this is a beautiful site and a development of this type will ruin the landscape.
Protect the countryside - This area is a haven to wildlife with many species of birds and fauna, there is also badgers, rabbits, squirrels and deer on this land. Has an Environmental Impact Assessment been carried out on this land.??
Protect tranquillity - This development will increase noise and light pollution.
Putting the right homes in the right places - There are far more suitable development areas compared to this site.
Infrastructure - Calne has limited resources and further development will have a serious impact on this, from doctors, to dentist
PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU WISH TO HELP PETITION OR WOULD LIKE TO OBJECT TO THE PROPOSAL.

I am taking a very open view on this one.
The land WILL be developed at sometime in the future, regardless.
I guess the choices will be these.
1. A modern development of a reasonable quality, by a west country developer.
2. A Gypsy site - Think about it, it'd be perfect.
3. A social housing development 100% - Housing associations are actively looking for plots like this ....i know .... i work for one !
So ...... If this site were developed to a good standard, a mandatory policy put in to make good the local road network and a drainage system adequate enough to cope with the water ..... what would you rather have.
And yes, i too, live very near by !!!!!!!!! |

Just to let you know I have no views onthis until it comes to committee if it does and then I will judge it accordingly along with the rest of the Committee.

I don't accept that this land has to be developed now or at any time in the future. The planning line excludes this land and the local plan will have to be amended to accomodate this proposal.
Previous applications have been rejected so why is this proposal now acceptable?
Chuck don't sit on the fence with this application or vote for or against it under the party whip. Visit the site and judge for yourself if this will be to the benefit of the town as a whole.
Calne has has more than enough inappropriate developements and this is one to many, in my opinion! _________________ A lifelong Calne supporter |

Chepfer - Why does the land have to be developed? it is currently green belt land so why should we all just allow this land to change to a large housing development (extra 202 houses already on an overdeveloped area)?
I personally feel that as Calne residents we do and should have a say/choice so to 'put up with this proposal beacuse it might be used for something worse' would be like rolling over.
I am not prepared to roll over, sit in even more traffic etc.. without at least trying.. to have an impact/say... |

Just for the record ..... I would be against any application to build there and agree with Calne on all aspects.
I am trying to create open debate on the subject and look from all angles, which is what the town council will (hopefully) be doing when the application arrives.
For the council to refuse this application, we need some good background info on the problems it'll cause ... many of which you have mentioned.
But i think i am right in saying (Peter correct me if i am wrong) there is another big problem with the site ...... The main oil and petrolium pipeline that runs directly from Fawley oil works to Lyneham and the north runs under the site and white horse way, the pumping station is on wenhill lane!!!! ..... without major civil engineering works taking place to move it ..... the site will be a costly one ...to costly hopefully ...... to build anyway, this should be brought up and made clear. |

yes I have forgotten that, I think you are correct there is a pipe line going through the site or near bye. That though did not stop persimmon building very close to the gas pipe that runs to the north of the town. _________________ A lifelong Calne supporter |
