Never thought I would say this but Calne is in need of a traffic warden but not in the centre. If any one knows the Dixon way junction they need to stop the cars parking on the double yellow lines on the junction as you can not see if the road is clear to pull out.
They are also needed on bishop road, Dixon way, the Wynd, Braemor road and any other road what is so clogged up with cars that should there be a emergency a fire engine would never get through. The people who are at fault on parking like this should be heavily fined.

If a car is parked dangerously you can notify the police and give them their number plate. They then have an obligation to rectify this problem.

The roads you have mentioned, were built when cars were scarce. Now there are at least 2 cars to each household, where can they park?
The houses on the northern side of Dixon way, used to have off street parking to the rear. This was taken from them. There are two houses along there that have garages in the back garden, with a fence across the access to them.
A friend along Dixon way took his front fence down to park a car in his garden, but westlea sent him letters saying this wasn't allowed, and to replace the fence.

So is a traffic warden the right solution? Surely a better one would be for westlea to remove the grass islands, and make the road wider.

As for Breamor road, I do know that the council will grant free planning permission to all those that want to put a drive in the front garden. Downside is, you still have to fork out for the drive to be constructed. Westlea had a residents meeting about this late last year.

it would make sence for them to take the grass off dixon way and make car spaces.its the top half of dixson way what has the trouble quite a few of which already has drives which they do not use.
parking so close and even on the juntion is dangerous and will and has cuased accidents.

Years ago, I had an accident turning right out of north way, onto Lickhill road. Cars parked right up to and round the corner. I was edging out, and a Calne Taxi hit me from the right.
Technically, the accident was my fault, but calne taxi did not claim on my insurance. Perhaps it had something to do with the taxi driver's car stopping outside Newcroft road, and my car pointing in the opposite direction I was turning. Methinks he was going a bit too fast.

the Dixon Way problem is not generally as a result of those living living there. there are people living in North Street who have no parking who park where they can, thats part of the problem.

there is a general problem now in that parking is no longer a police matter but the responsibility of the district council.  the police will not respond to a call on parking issues!

Calne does have a traffic warden but not full time, at best for only 1 day a week (not sure what happens when he is on holiday). i have only seen him in the centre and up to the White Hart.

if you want more (traffic wardens that is) you will need to lobby the district council, but be quick it ceases to exsist on the 31st March 2009. after that you will need to speak to county hall in trowbridge.

I don't think I have ever seen a traffic warden in Calne.

I saw two near Anchor Road a few weekends ago.

This Q&A would seem to describe when Parking Attendants can ticket:

if you have not seen a traffic warden in the town would it be because you don't spend much time there?
