Heath's (where the bike shop, near the library, is) paper shop as a paperboy in 1963, can't remember the wages.

Worked in Harris's during school summer holidays (6weeks) as a student worker. With bonus's and overtime you could earn over £10.00 a week. Big money in the late 60's.

Left school proper in 68 and worked at Rawlings James & Phillips  for 4 pounds 10 schillings (£4.50) a week. £2.00 of which I gave to my mother for my keep!

I was an apprentice at Lackham college £25 a month in 1973. The best bit was I was a member of staff at 15.

I remember working at Blounts Court Garden Centre during the weekends and being paid a princely sum of £5.00! That was in 1986.  Big Grin

Attrebates my dear boy are you trying to say something? You are normally a little bit more erudiate, are you not well?
Perhaps you should see your doctor.
I am sure that you can arrange an appointment for 3 weeks next Tuesday.

I hope you get better soon.

Just trying to inject a little humour and clearly failing abjectly.  Monty Python wasn't it ?   I suspect many of the others may be too young to remember. :D

AND I'm still not sure about the "Dear"  but I appreciate your concern for my welfare.

But back on thread.  I started on 3 guineas a week. Thats £3 15p in new money and I was an apprentice technician in HM Forces (No tanks, no boats.)    Imagine my disappointment when I wound up with 30 bob (£1.50) in my hand.     I knew absolutely nothing about National Insurance or Income tax. (still don't) but that was in 1967.  The only dinosaurs were human.   Some things don't change except I'm now possibly classed among them !!!!

I had free work clothes, bed and food (more or less like a prison) and we got to do our own cleaning and room service.  I was lucky in many ways.   Job lasted 29 years and I did do a bit of travelling.
