What he if had fought to try to resist arrest? Surely they're better to be safe than sorry?

- three coppers was a bit excessive, for just a shop lifter. Roll eyes
When my son got hit in the head, a certain PC wouldn't even get out of his car to question one of the individuals that I had stopped, he let me and the missus question him???? Cross
- yes, he was alone in his police car, but he had a radio.........

While not trying to minimise the negative impact of your experience,  the relevance of that experience to this story is....?

Odd how people always say either too many cops or two few cops for a particular scenario and then use some negative experience, often many years ago, to somehow validate that opinion.

Same with buses - always too many or too few turn up, but never just the right amount!  Roll eyes

I was chatting to a mate yesterday who's a policeman in Chippenham. He said that no matter what the police do there will be criticism of their actions.

Although three policemen arrived to take the thief away I bet the shopkeeper was thankful that the crime was dealt in a swift and effective manner. The problem now though is this thief will now be dealt with in the courts and will probably get a slap on the wrist.

Surely two coppers would of sufficed? As for being better safe instead of sorry, the copper in question was quite willing for members of the public to be put "at risk" whilst he remained cosy in his car- and it wasn't years ago for your information.
I do agree with what GTB has said, and he probably wont even get a slap on the wrists.
Policing just isn't what it used to be.

The trouble is that the police are always on the front line and it is they who have to take the crap from drunkards, bullies and yobs whilst the magistrates dish out lenient sentences and push them straight back into the public arena.

I know this maybe changing the topic slightly but until prisons are changed from being a Butlin's holiday camp and into something more in relation to a punishment regime then crime will always be on the increase. A topic has already been started on the "soft" prison issue and further comments should be made here:

It's not your ordinary bobby that's at fault, it's the politically correct fools at the top who are too busy with brown-nosing-Brown to give a monkey's about what Joe Public feel -

Mmm, that sounds angry - have I committed a crime?!
