There was a butchers on London road near the turning onto Silver street where my mum would but sausage rolls from. Best ever I swear.

isnt the butchers still there?

i cant remember the lansdowne having a avery

I hope they're still there. I'll get back to visit one day and probably hit them up for some cooked swine rods wrapped in pastry.

There were two aviaries at the Lansdowne, they were on the right hand side of the beer garden as you faced the pub from the car park. Mainly canaries. Fond memories of that car park late one night, uh, parking cars and uh, stuff.

calne has recently lost a great man who most people took driving lessons from.He was also one of are nighbours Gorden porter.
he not only taught my mum ,he also taught my brother and sister how to drive.By the time i learned how to drive i had mrs porter.
A saying what gorden taught was always treat other car drivers as complete idiots ,that way you will be fine.My mum goes still goes by this.

I remember having Gordon as a driving instructor. I remember driving in Chippenham one night during a lesson with Gordon when I was over taken by a car which then hit a cyclist and killed him. The police advised Gordon that it should be him who drove back home and not me, the learner, because we were both visibly shocked. Sod that said Gordon, I'm too shook up to drive so he's going to have to do it. So I reluctantly got back behind the wheel and drove back home with Gordon Puffing away on a fag to calm his nerves. We both learnt a lesson that night. Needless to say, I passed first time and totally respected Gordon as a first rate instructor. R.I.P, Gordon.
