Now's your chance to shine.

Tell us all what sport you play, what activity you'd like to try or what you think you'd be good at ?

Tell us yours and we'll tell you ours........ Big Smile

Archery (ex-inlaws are world champs)
Fishing (Course)
Climbing
Cycling (Although nowadays, I never have anywhere to ride to)
I am tempted to say caving, but I don't do caves just mines, and I do it for sight seeing/exploration more then sport.

I used to play badminton twice a week when I was in my early 20's and I was pretty good at it as well.

I played football (badly) for a little while and cricket for 5 or 6 years until the kids came along and curtailed that. I was getting to be a handy off-break bowler and square leg fielder but my batting was still pretty average.

GTB you can start playing badminton again, there are 3 clubs and hoards of plebs playing every week at the new leisure centre, why don't you give it a try.

Did you manage to bowl a ""wrong un"?

On a personal basis I am a typical white middled aged man, I have played every thing except Rugby and Lacrosse. Like almost all other men I am/was pretty mediocre at all of them.

Peter, Hope your not refering to the "Plebs" that helped you, in there own time, to build the new "Cafe" and "Bar" at the Leisure centre...... Don't think they'd be to pleased to hear that they are regarded as Plebs..... thats all !!!.

Plebs is an abbreviation for Plebeian an old roman word with the following description.
In Ancient Rome, the plebs were the general body of Roman citizens, distinct from the privileged class of the patricians. A member of the plebs was known as a plebeian (Latin: plebeius). The term is used more commonly today to refer to one who is in the middle or lower class, or who appears to be; however, in Rome, plebeians could become quite wealthy and influential.

Fairly desriptive of most of us really

No Chepfer, I was refering to people like me who turn up with a badminton racket every week and make a fist of playing, not very good but have a great time.

I am very appreciative of all those who gave up there spare time, especially over Christmas, to make the leisure centre the success it is.

Bear thanks for the definative explanation, my usage was to describe  someone who is of the crowd, an ordinary citizen rather than someone who is proficient at the sport, Badminton.

Well that was actually quite an interesting little exersise. I never knew about the roman stuff, really facinating (really !!).

Isn't it funny how terms of expression get confused throughout the generations.

The reason i brought it up was because if you said to someone they were a Pleb (younger present generations of today), it is taken as if you are calling them stupid, backwards and really isn't a nice thing to say.

But i do understand that this was not meant. Isn't language a wonderfull thing, yesterdays swear words are todays normal language and the meaning of words means less and less because of it.

This Pleb is now enlightened.

Big Smile
