would you be happy if boxing was taught in schools?

i was listening to wiltshire radio this morning and a school has indroduced boxing as part of lessons.
what they are saying is that on the one hand boxing will teach disapine and control.
would you be happy to let your childs school have boxing as part of lessons?

I'm not sure if i'd be happy with it . I can understand Judo (which they teach at Cherhill school) as it is a form of self defence but boxing is classed as an agreeesive sport...... You either knock somone out or beat them until they are bloody anyway....

Though i do understand it is a disciplined sport and it gets you fit etc....... really not sure..... though i think i'd like my son to be able to protect imself.......

I would agree as long as it was done properly by which I mean as a disciplined sport. It is one of those things that comes under the same heading as National Service, not necessarily nice but nicely necessary.

Im not really sure, i paid for my three kids when they were younger to have kick boxing lessons, for disciplin for the eldest (he was a bit of a rebel) and self defence for his yonger brother and for the youngest just because she was a girl!
Now the eldest can control his temper, the middle one is still shy but my daughter who is now 17, well lets just say i feel so sorry for her boyfriend if he upsets her !

i dont think i would be happy .something like judo or karate then fine but not boxing.i would say the matial arts are more disaplined than boxing.boxing is just hitting the crap out of your opponant,

Boxing is the only "martial art" which requires the continual bludgeoning of your opponents head until submission or unconciousness is attained. I'd say that boxing is probably more barbaric than fox hunting.

I'm sure that Mr Reynard would not agree with you on that one GTB
