wny is there so many duolicate shops in calne?

i noticed today that there is a sandwich shop at the top of town.so now calne has two .why do they let that happen surley it would be better for the town and for the retailer to have one shop type in calne
Peter Dolman

because the shops are owned by different private landlords who can let to whom they want. there is more than one charity shop in Phelps Parade and both shops are owned by the Wilts Council (NWDC).

anyway the second sandwich shop has been open for many weeks so when was the last time you came to town?

this is why so many people shop out of Calne, its all take aways sandwich shops and charity shops, you cant do a proper weeks shop (at an affordable price) in town now, makes you wonder if people can still prepare a meal for theirselves these days

surley though the council has some say in what shops come in to the town. i feel sorry for the guy who owns sam widges he must have been doing a good trade  now you also have the upper crust .
result will be that sam widges loses buissness ,lay off staff and shut down .only for another duolicate shop to come in.

funnt you should say about being down town peter i have been twice a week in telast few months.
Peter Dolman

the town council has no say what so ever in who or what takes on any of the shops in calne. unlike devizes, calne council owns no shops premises in the town.

I guess if the demand is there, then surely its better to have something there rather than nothing ...... good on them for having the guts to make it work !
Local lass

agreed chepfer although a little more variety wont go a miss.

what we need is a record shop....that would be cool!

I remember the old record shop by Lloyds bank. The only place you can get a shop like that any more is in the back streets of Bath.

Yeah Hawkins i spent all my pocket money there buying vinyls lol
Peter Dolman

there was a second hand record shop in Dixons for many years but closed due to the impact of CD's.

My oldest memory of buying a record in Hawkins was Sticky Fingures by the Rolling Stones.

What was the 1st record you brought?
Biggles

Have you been to Iceland, they sell lots more stuff than just frozen food, and their pizzas are better than Sainsburys, and milk is £1 for 4 pints, when it is £1.53 in Sainsburys and Tescos.......
Biggles

actually yeah i went there last week and stocked right up and they even delivered it to save me carrying it home

daffy

you can now buy records in Magpies in chippenham .
I remember Hawkins record shop ,my first single i got there was 99 red ballons ,cant remember who sang it  .it cost £1.20.

Nena sung it the german woman with the hairy armpits (still remember that on totp) lol
