I work the other side of Newbury.
Yesterday (Thursday) I got as far as SIlbury Hill, as lorries were stuck up the hills on the A4 at East Kennett.
It took me 1 hour to get to Silbury Hill and Back
And that's in a 4WD car!

went from Calne to Chippenahm this morning (approx 8:15am). GWR said the road was closed, but their info was out of date per normal. I just kept going - although slowly (very slowly at times). There was a lorry stuck in new derry hill. but the traffic was going round it when I got there. The info on the radio was out of date - I know from other people at work that the road had been closed earlier.
The police were stopping people driving up old derry hill even at 9am.
Took me an hour to get to work.
Many people didnt make it today - only 3 of us made it in from Calne.
The roads very very bad - no grit. Side roads were even worse.
Due to the need to have specialist equipment and materials, working from home is not an option for me.
too many still taking risks and not knowing how to drive in the conditions. The little C1 Citoroen at the bridge St roundabout - went to pull away per normal, and spun its wheels. The hatchback (fiesta?) leaving top of Dixon way, way too much power. The black Audi RS8 which was stuck to my bumper most of the way to work - why so close? 4 more cars + a lorry in front of me - I have no intention of getting too close to the lorry in thes conditions. We know what happens to them on hills! And yesterday the Mitsi Warrior pick up that overtook me and churned up all the ridges of snow/ice from the road and dropped it onto my winscreen - thanks very much for that. And tonight, a careful driver of a council transit van got overtook going up new derry hill (still not fully clear at the top) by a car driver that couldnt wait - on the bend too.
drive too close, and put on the brakes and you wont stop - well only by the car in front of you.
