What does Calne need ?Calne's facilites are pretty good for a small market town i think ?!
What more do we need here ?
Are there enough pubs ?
Eating Places ?
Speciality shops ?
Parks ?
What is it that we need here, that would make life easier for us all and make us stay in the town as opposed to travel elsewhere ?

a male and female clothes shop
a pub which is children friendly
more police on the street a fully working police atation would be better.

Think Calne does ok there - has problems getting enoguh people into the existing ones I think!
Not terribly good, could do with one or two more, especially if not at the bottom end of the market.

Can't think what speciality is needed really.
Castlefields, The Rec and Beaverbrook seem to be enough.
Better eateries really for me: if you don't want to go to a pub there's not a lot of attraction really at night.

A change of attitude towards live music.
If people choose to live in the centre of town they get a lot of advantages:
Close to shops, pubs, life and all the joys of that nature.
They also get to sample the downside of living in the town centre:
noise, noise, noise.
1/ Imagine choosing to order a plate of curry and complaining about the spice?
2/ Imagine, moving onto a dairy farm and complaining about cows? 3/ Imagine, moving into a town centre and complaining about live music?
Of the above 3 scenarios, one is true and happens! Idiots!
While playing an outside busk for charity outside the Kings Arms pub last November or so, the Calnevalistas were cold and unpaid and happy to perform, people were complaining about kids being woken up. It was Friday night, it was not particularly late - 7ish - and we played for a total of about 40 mins with just 20 mins outside.
If you don't like live music, stay out of the town at night. Let the music play. There's a load of good talent in Calne and it gets hammered by whinging people who have pubs closed and come up with all kinds of excuses for disallowing live bands to play.
If music is the food of love, play on, said Shakespeare.
If music wakes my kids up - call the police say the fun killers of Calne.

Some people dont have the choice of where they live! Also just because it was a friday night, does that mean kids have to have their routine messed up because adults want to listen to some sort of music outside?
Why could you not continue inside the kings?
Also did you have a busking licence or even a ppl???
Not everyone likes the same sort of music anyway.
I think Calne has enough eating places and pubs.
It could do with some more shops or even a better market.
And it could certainly do with more police.

A council that will fly our countrys flag (too much to ask for?)
More proper coppers on the beat.
Teenagers with a little bit more respect?
Maybe could do with a couple more shops, like clothing???
-one last thing, everyone has their own definition of what music is.
(for the record, I cant play any instrument, nor do I pretend to!)

I think a place where famliys can go to have a nice meal, somewhere with a menu that offers a childrens menu, or even a playground ......
The only one with half a chance of this is the bug and spider ...... but it's not great.
Great potential again, especailly with a mini hotel next to it.
When we go away we always look for somewhere child friendly to stay or eat ...... around here ....... well .......... i guess it's have to be the premier inn and brewsters in chippenham.
It's a big relatively untapped business (peter - hint hint - i read you wanted to buy a pub).

I recently moved onto a dairy farm ... it's not the cows, it's the farmers swearing at the tops of their voices at 6am!

Those cows probably don't do what they are told.

Thats all very well and true for people looking to move into the area to live, but what about the people who are already living there - back to a point where there was no live music being played next door/outside. I bet you wouldnt be too happy if a band turned up next door to you every Fri & Sat and played music at full volume!

I don't know why people don't have a choice of where they live? As I say, there are swings and roundabouts in all aspects of life. I don't like the sound of the church bells, but I would not dream to go in there and demand that they stop ringing them. I accepted my place to live, as we all can. You live out in the sticks - you get peace and quiet but you don't get the shops and entertainment.
I think the question about licences and all are out of context. We DID actually move into the Kings Arms and continued playing after cutting short the gig.
There were two kids (known now from CCTV footage) who were throwing coins and stones at us from by the 2 phone boxes. I didn't get hit but one woman did twice! I've heard of music critics but that was extreme.
My point was about the ATTITUDE - "A change of attitude towards live music. "

If I moved into a property opposite a pub which has been so since about 1700 or something, then I would expect to have some loudness on a weekend. If someone played music outside my flat ONE NIGHT for 20 mins, I'd hear it and may or not like it, but I wouldn't particularly want to be so rude as to verbally attack them for it.
I avoided shops when the Sally Army band was playing near bye as I can not stand the sound of brass bands playing Xmas carols! Did I walk over and gob off and get all offensive? No. I walked on by cringing.

Why was this question out of context?
ANYONE that plays music to the public has to have a licence!
If you had a licence and it was advertised, people would have know about it and been able to sort there kids out before hand.
| Quote: | | I don't know why people don't have a choice of where they live? |
If i am right people on a council/housing waiting list can only refuse so many properties before being put down the list?

Maybe, just maybe, some people thought the same about YOUR music!
Not everyone likes the same things!!!

-so calnevista's operate above the law and busk without a licence, not good promotion for them is it?
-had I of known there were kids throwing coins I would of asked them to stop, purely for wasting their money.......

I appluade the Calnevistas for what they do.
I think it's great that a group of people get off there arses and do something they enjoy, with the thought that they may be helping the community spirit.
Though it's not really my cuppa tea and i would be annoyed if they turned up outside my house at 7pm, whilst the kids are trying to get to sleep. Infact they's be so "Stimulated" that they'd be awake all night i expect (routene's are awful but needed) grrrr.
But i would be perfectly happy if the band had previously said they were going to be there and i'd prepare and make an evening of it ..... and enjoy the "noise" and spectacle.
I guess the order of the day is plan, prepare and let everyone know about it .....
"I think it's some we need more of in Calne - getting back to the topic"
People like the Calnevistas - We need them and many more like them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
