Wanted - Aerial installerDue to Sky annoying me, I have just cancelled it.
In the next 4 weeks I need to get the aerial I have in the loft installed on the side of the house.
It is a decent aerial, 2 years old and there is a booster in the loft, but the aerial is in the loft next to it, and I need it outside to get freeview properly.
Not a big job, but I don't want to get ripped off. A couple of hours (max) up a ladder, drill 1 hole in the wall, and connect 1 cable, as well as putting the aerial up.
3 storey house.
Anybody know any aerial installers?
Cheers
Steve

The only people I can think of round the Calne area are Mainstone Television. They installed a new aerial for my Uncle in Horsebrook Park to enable him to get Freeview.

We can get the sky "free to view" channels, but the dish needs moving (trees have grown in front of it - not my trees).
Hence I want the aerial putting up on a big pole on the side of my 3 storey house, it has a good line of sight and neighbours don't have problems.
Was your uncle happy?

His Freeview works perfectly. He had the old TopUptv package which has now lapsed but still has the Digi-box that went with it.

Got it done, cost blooming £120 though!!!
Bloke said "should be £50 plus parts, plus VAT".
When the bill came to £120 my wife was shocked but paid it.
I rang the company for an explanation, and he said "labour was £75, not £50 because they went into the 2nd half hour. Pole was £9, bracket £19, rawl bolts £4, a bit of cable £4. Lets call it £120 all in".
Screwfix do the bracket for £5 including fixing kit.
Bit miffed really, but I did manage to get Sky Plus for free, with free installation (for the lounge), the aerial for freeview is for the bedroom).

Freeview in Calne.Hello, I'm a 'prodigal son'of Calnetalk, i.e. signed up ages ago & then forgot all about it untill reminder email!
Terrestrial Freeview (DVT) is officially not available in Calne untill 2010. The signal is currently broadcast from MENDIP (Roughly SSW) and can be picked up in parts of calne with a suitable aerial. Polarisation is Horizontal i.e the elements should be placed horizontally. The local Calne transmitter is Vertical polarisation.
By suitable aerial I mean High gain (i.e lots of elements) and Wideband. The higher up the better, loft antenna's don't work and thick trees in the way will disrupt the weak signal. An additional amplifier may be required and all cable used should be best quality.
Best spots are the NW side of Town (North st., Lansdowne Park) Although Mendip is one of the highest transmitters in the country Wenhill/Pinhill and Naish Hill get in the way of the 'view' from much of the town.
With all this in mind and the cost involved you may wish to be patient and wait for about another year when Freeview will magically appear on your current Calne aerial as long as you have a freeview reciever. The old signal will disappear and conventional telly's will stop working!!
Satellite Freeview (DVS) is already available. If you are lucky enough to have a sky dish simply get a 'Freesat' Box and off you go. Old Sky Digiboxes with no card in can be used as a freesat box.
DIY install of Sky Dishes can be done but are a pain to set up as alignment is crucial.
At the moment Sky are doing great deals on Skyplus and SkyplusHD so this may be worth a look if you can't wait for Calne to be 'Switched on!'
Hope that helps. PS I have No commercial interest in this matter!
