Verona

One of the most enjoyable holidays of recent years was a short driving holiday to Verona. Stopping in Switzerland (St Gottard pass) Lake Lugano, Lake Garda before arriving in Verona.
We spent 2 days walking around the city visiting as many of the Roman and Medieval sites as possible.
On the last evening we had tickets to see the opera Aida. The opera was shown in the 2,000 year old Roman ampitheatre and was an experience of a lifetime.

This was holiday was easy to arrange with ferry crossings, hotel bookings and opera tickets all booked on line. It was also a fairly inexpensive holiday.
There were some minor problems but those added to the holiday experience and being able to travel at your own pace, stopping when and where you want is very empowering.

You don't have to have a fantastic new car just make sure its been serviced before you go.

I've been to Verona which is a lovely place to visit. Did you see Juliet's balcony? I had 3 weeks at Torre Del Benaco, Lake Garda back in 1996 and it was one of my favourite holidays. We did the usual excursions to Rome, Pisa, Milan, Sorrento (and Capri), etc. We did have a guided tour around La Scala in Milan as well as a tour around Milan's Duomo which is breathtaking - Milan has to be my favourite European city.
