Unitary Councillors trainingThe successful candidates at the elections on June 4th have been invited to a prolonged training/induction programme. It runs from June 8th to July 2nd.
It includes a session where a scenario is acted out by a theatre company. This seems a bit OTT.
I therefore inquired about the cost involved and have been advised that there is a budget of £35,000. While I agree that some induction is required and some IT training is crucial £35,000 does seem a little high.
Am I picky, what do you think?

How many people will be attending the training, and how long will each person be trained for (how many days)?
It may not be so excessive, depending on the answers...

I have recently organised a training event for staff, contractors and customers in respect to the new electrical regulations ..... 40 people attended and we had a proffesional advisor and food and drinks and lasted a day.
This cost me £250.00 all in.
For something as serious as becoming a new councillor ...... i dont think circus skills are appropriette ....Unless thats the norm in the council chamber !!!!!

-speaking of budgets, check out how much cash was wasted on "the bowl", most of it unnecessarily, lining the usual pockets!

Which is a total cost of £10,000 for 40 people over one day.
Not sure where the circus comment comes from: role-playing is usually quite effective and, considering that councillors are volunteers and thus often with little experience, what's the problem with training them effectively? Or would we rather pay for them to 'learn on the job', which is far more error-prone and mistakes are far more costly.

NO ... £250 for everyone !!!!!!.
It's finding the right provider and spending a bit of time researching.
I had quotes of up to £10,000 from specialist companies for the same event ....
In the end i contacted a local university on the off chance and a lecturer (and this is the guy who has taught most of the people from the specialist ((rip off))companies) came in and did a wonderfull job.
True though rosco, i expect the course for the councillors will last for at least 2 weeks !!???? or at least i would hope it did !

If you read my comment the programme runs from the 8th June to the 2nd July.
A total of 98 councillors will be elected and many of them will have been county and/or district councillors before so will have had some experience.
There are day time sessions with many being repeated again in the evening.

That is a huge problem in the public secter where they do waste money like that .they dont seem to look about for prces.
my ex works for the public secter and one week they were told that they were going to cut back that this particular service was low on money .the folling week 235 of them over a corse of three days were sent on a corse which they stayed over night at a cost of 135 per night had every thing payed for them food and drink,as much as they wanted and the corse apparently was the biggest waste of time going.it had nothing to do with the job but more to do team activitys

exactley block if they look in to prices a lot more insted of taking the first quote they could save huge amounts of money what is better for other things.
not sure how the council do it but with one they on purpose spent all the funding to get a raise the following year if they do not spent all the money it sdosnt go up
