Still it does help the BBC become a world-leader broadcast company, not tied to advertising revenues - it's not all bad.

Bit archaic though isnt it that an institution like the BBC has still to be funded from our pockets and we have no choice as to wether we pay or not.

If everyone stops paying for the license, what will they do then?
I have a telly license, yet I can only receive 3 channels.
ITV
News 24
Ceebeebies.

Cause the aerial is in attic, I suppose. I did have 8 channels, but lost bbc1, bbc2, pricedrop, history and a music channel when I put my web server in the attic.
I may invest in a freeview sky setup at some point, but no rush. I would rather read.

sky isnt much better we have the full package on sky and there are hell of a lot of repeats on there.
The adverts do my head in a programme could start at 902 and there would be a break at 906

You wouldn't be able to select certain channels as BBC have their fingers in nearly all of them.
They produce dramas for ITV and Channel 4, the UK channels on Cable/Sky (Gold, People, etc) show BBC programmes, as do many other channels.
People tried this back when Sky first came about - but BBC soon bought into it and people were told they had to still pay.
