This is the thing... IF they get a proper site with hard standing, water supplies and electricity hookup points, they have no excuse to go trespassing elsewhere locally! How much less trouble can come from travellers if you have a restricted place for them to be?

You book a pitch use for a short while and move on - Seems to make sense to me - and it means the caravan sites get business out of season |

Local lass. I see your point of view of travellers is particularly narrow. I wonder have you ever had a bad experience with travellers personally? I know many travellers, some of whom would leave a place cleaner and more tidy than when they arrive. These are the ones we don't notice.
Others, thankfully the rarer few, who we DO hear about, mainly due to their controversial behaviour and mess they leave behind, etc, are bad apples indeed. I know town dwellers who wreak havoc in all kinds of ways. I know that when I live in one of the blocks of flats in Calne there were three flats in that one block were dealing hard core, class A drugs! I suppose if I took a dim view I could extrapolate and suggest that ALL flat dwellers deal in hard core, class A drugs. I would, of course, be entirely wrong. I could also suggest, by dint of the same process, that as I have read of a few footballers accused of gang rape, that ALL footballers are gang rapists? Nowhere near truth again, but then who cares about truth when hysteria is available? I can understand fears about travellers coming to stay in town, the point is that IF we welcome them and cheer for the site, they will in all likelihood avoid it like the plague and give Calne a wide berth in future. As it is, we have no designated zone for any travellers passing by to go to, and they will continue to pass by no matter what. With a designated zone, they can not stop on the Green or some school fields and demand to be allowed to stay. Designated areas allow police and councils powers beyond what they have without those zones. By the way, not all people wish to live the same way you live Local Lass. Some people want something different from life. Some people want to be able to pursue their traditional way of life and get on with it. There are Romany families who can trace their family trees back to the 17th Century in Great Britain. I can't, can you? Can anyone here? |

I have nothing against the true gypsies geddi.Its the sods who are call them selfs traverlers who do nothing but take ,and are a law unto there self. as for tracing the family geddi yes i can trace my family back to the 17th century. |

travellersAll i can say is these people who call themselves travellers should keep on moving and travel away from calne if not they should live by the laws and rules given to us by our councils and government that we all so stricty have to abide by i have seen people told to take down sheds and playhouses in our gardens so why on earth should they be treated any diffrently i fully support you local lass and have signed your partition.

I'm with Local Las on this one - I have nothing against true Gypsies and Romanies - they normally set up camp in area's outside of towns and leave the place tidy, it's the freeloaders that call themselves travellers, yet expect to be able to what ever they like and leave the place in a total stater.
I do notice however Geddi - you didn't post the comments from the article of the spokesperson for the football tournament - who mentions that they are having to clean up the area as there is human excrement everywhere!! Is that normal behaviour of people who wish to be no problem? |

That is just vile and proves they are nothing but bloody animals. hundred of school kids use those pitches and on saturday there is a tounament what involve hundreds of youngters.rangeing from the age of of 6-15. if anything its made me hate them more. shows what respect they have for people . they would soon moan is we went to the caravans and crapped on there floor and left it for them to clean up. and again at whose expense is it that it was cleaned up.?? oh yeah that would be ares again. traverlers are scum and are not welcome in calne . |

A nother thing i want to know is if i took a dog to a public place and let it crap everywhere and just leave it i can risk the chance of being fined ,
so how can a group of people crap over the field and not face any charges.??

I think the point GTB made is quite interesting in as much as why are we or whoever even talking about a site when as travellers I assume we are talking about caravans etc and all over the country there are hundreds of sites where you can stay and hook up to an electric supply all you have to do is pay the daily charge for doing so and pay for any electrity you use. It's quite similar to renting a house and using the ammenities available and paying your electric bill. Why cant the travellers go and stay at Blacklands for example can anyone answer this for me? | ||

Exactly Block the point I was trying to make why have a special site for free to one section of the community when the rest of us have to pay. I have a good mind to buy a caravan if the site goes ahead and then I can live there for nothing it would save me a fortune in rent, poll tax etc. | ||
