The Leisure CentreDont get me wrong but is all this fuss about the Leisure Centre closing and raising money to get it reopened not a case of not realising what you've got till its gone and will it not end up going anyway when the new people running it find out that not enough people use it which is why it shut in the first place. How many of us on this forum used it in the twelve months before it closed and how many will be using it twelve months after it reopens.

good point bear .I know when my other half used to take my son swimming there was very little people in it.not only that they will face quitre a up hill struggle as people who did use it has proberly gone else where.
the schools used to use it a lot though i dont know if that will be the case when it re opens.
a lot of calne people either use blacklands or the st marys which to be fair was a lot more up to date and cleaner than calne sports center.
i hope it does work out for them but like you bear i wonder if they are just prolonging the more pernament closer of the center.only time will tell.

leisure centrethere should be no doubt that the leisure centre will reopen, at the firework display on sat night the group were handing out leaflets, taking bookings etc. if you want to book the hall for football or any thing else the word is get your application in quick.
www.calneleisurecentre.co.uk
this is obviously a serious group and they don't plan to be closing, as long as the people living in calne want it open.

That is the sad thing about Calne people do not realise what they have untill it is gone.

Was it ever really that busy?
If you want to save it then get mr Bowood to buy it and turn it into some £10k a year executive gym or something.
Be honest now, how many of you lot have used it since leaving school?
If you have, how often?
I know damn well I have not been there since leaving school.

I used the centre every week when it was open, for swimming and badminton mainly. It was always busy in the evenings but was badly ley down by North wilts leisure and in some ways the NWDC, who seemed to have no interest or control of what was happing to the centre.
When the centre re opens, it will be well used by the regulars and schools and money will be controlled independantly of any local council, which is great.
What the centre needs and has been doing is marketing and advertising. The centre at present is being upgraded (Yes i am helping too) and will feature upgraded facilties and new areas. A new bar and social area is being created and will be run by an independant brewery,i'm sure it will feature Sky T.v and hold regular sports evenings, thus creating a social venue not just for users of the centre but for locals wanting a decent place to have a few beers and watch the footy and a game of pool.
Also a new restaurant run by the "Patch of blue" cafe is to open, which will cater for people during the day, i guessed aimed at parents and familes during the afternoons and centre users in the evenings.
Anyway less of htis waffle.......... spread the word ..... i;'m sure it'll be great for the people of Calne, to have somewhere to call there own.
P.s I have heard the Blacklands centre is struggling and that St mary's is full to capacity with members........!
Anyway..... Spread the word that it is opening and will be great and hopefully people will use it

it is opening in the new year isnt it.?
how much is it to become a member?
i do hope it works ,it needs to have a bit fun injected into the place.
schools having it is fine but the timetable last time ment it was mostly schools and private partys using the pools.
and left very little time for public swimming.which was a shame.
hopefully that will change.
