The Lantern parade

has been called off this year  which is a great shame to calne as it was a really good show. and something which the kids really enjoyed.

Bonfire Night

anyone know when the bonfires are being held and where?
we went to the calne firework display last year which was good .they had no bonfire(shame) but the fireworks where good the only thing what spoiled it was they had a outside disco which they never turned off during the fireworks so although the fireworks were pretty you never had there full effect as you could not hear them(except the bangers).

indeed

I usually have my own fireworks, much better, more fun, some classy ones in Sainsburys last year.

also more dangerous.i really wish that they put a ban on fireworks unless at a organised event and make it against the law to let any off except fo on the 5th.
they should not even sell them till the 4th.

it's not dangerous, I'm not exactly throwing them at people, and I always follow the guidelines .
Local lass

all fireworks are dangerous.i know your not going to throw them .
and dont get me wrong stfc you are proberly very senseble with them.
unlike a old nighbour of mine who decided to light fireworks at 2 am in the morning
there should be a curfew of l fireworks especially the bangers of about 11pm to let fireworks off any later there really is no need.

definitely agree
Bear

Forgive me if I am wrong but why do we celebrate a GUY failing to blow up parliament, surely we should wait to celebrate someone succeeding in the task. Big Smile

I think that you're only allowed to let off fireworks until about midnight or so : 2am must certainly be illegal.

I'd heard that the lantern parade wasn't going to be able to use the Town Hall to store them but not that it was cancelled, are you sure about that?
Local lass

im pretty sure it was in the gazette last week .i know its not on there web site .i could of miss read it i quess but i dont think i did .and ive chucked my gazzete so i can check it
rosco

This is what I saw: http://www.gazetteandherald.co.uk...18372.0.lantern_parade_threat.php

if you get the free paper the star put through your door its on page 7.
its saying that organisers failed to find another venue after being refused free access to the town hall.

they are planning to hold a lantern festival in feb and will pay for the hall.
rosco

Yes, I see now - it is delayed to Feb. Does seem a great shame putting it off until then, appears as if the council is putting money before civic benefit.
Local lass

From what i can understand the only reason they called it off was because there was no where to make them :?
so what all the schools halls and varius church halls there are in calne.

What is the idea behind the lantern parade anyway, and how long's it been going on as a tradition for in Calne?
