The China Wok

Has anyone tried the new Chinese restaurant in Church street?   I went in there a few weeks ago with my family and had a great meal.  The service was excellent, the food arrived quickly and was well cooked and not too badly priced.  We went for the set menu and there was far too much for us.  The meal for 2 would have easily fed 3 or 4 adults.

My only surprise with this new venture is lack of advertising.  Whenever I mention it to anyone they haven't even been aware it has opened.  Can't be doing much for their business.

I have never tried that Restaurant, Bandysandy. Is it where Wong's used to be?

I think it's in part of the old Conservative Club building

Does nyone know if they do any midweek "all u can eat" midweek specials like the restaurants in Chippenham or anything like the Wednesday Banquet night at the Spice of Bengal?
Local lass

the china wok is open 12-2pm and 5pm to 11pm
monday to sat they are also open on a sunday 12pm till 11pm.

they do not do a all you can eat like the one in chippenham.the set menus start at 1290 to 1800 per person.
it is part of the old consertive club there number is 01249815111

Apparantly they're going to try 'an all you can eat buffet' in the new year on Sundays.  Whenever I go past in the evenings they seem fairly busy, but it's dead at lunchtimes.
Local lass

it works great in the one in chippenham .they are constanly packed its only 13 45 per person .its two starters ,then yu have your crispy duck or lamb then you have two mains.if they did that here in calne they will make a killing.
Chepfer

Yea i agree.

Though i guess they are aiming to be a quality outfit, not a cheapo all you can eat for a tenner kind of place.....

Like the idea though on a certain day !
Local lass

anyone been there yet
Bonnie

I have been there about half a dozen times since it opened with mixed results. Generaly it has been good, but I really hope they do something with the interior design.

It has looked pretty busy the last few times I have walked past.

Why don't you all give it a go, its worth supporting to help bring more choice to calne.
Local lass

is it the same owners as wongs
Bonnie

Yeah its the same owners, but quite a different menu. I think he wanted to have a takeaway from there as well but couldnt get planning.

Not sure if this was so he could move wongs into the building and sell his old premises.
Local lass

wongs is idaly placed for a take away its also the best chienese in calne

I have to say it was one of the worst meals i have had in a long time, the service lacked so much and i felt like i was sitting in a school hall, the food was ok but was overshadowed by the rest of the bad points.
Bad show Calne,i dont want to have to go elsewhere for food but it looks like i'm going to have to to get a good meal.

Calne_Lokal

I have to agree with the soiley,

I don't have much money but I went there thinking the food would be at least half decent. It took ages for the food to come.
Think I'll stick with my Big Mac thank you very much. Nowhere near the price, better food and the service is quicker.
