Should we eat horse

Gorden ramsey caused outrage with eating horse on one of his programmes. But whats wrong with it.
There are horses being bred in the uk stricktly for meat abroad.
but would there ever be a market here for them.
Clunk

They eat horse in France.
I am more inclined to ask the question, 'Why don't we eat horse?' They do in other countries, why not here?
Was there some medieval law that stopped people eating the kings horses which evolved into present day?
I ate duck for the first time about 2 months ago. I think we should eat more duck. It's lovely.

'Why don't we eat horse?

becuase people see it rather as a pet or working animal rather than meat.
as for duck there isnt enough meat on a duck agree that it is a lovely bit of meat .very fatty though.

We don't eat horse, but we also don't eat cat. dog, tiger, lion, bear, whale, seal, I could go on and list the majority of animals in existence that we don't eat but other countries do.

We don't eat squirrel, but they do in Redneck America, we don't eat rat, but they do in some places in Africa

Also it is not against the law to produce or eat horse meat in the UK - it's just as a nation we do not embrace the idea.

I feel we have a large enough selection of meat in this country with out having to introduce anymore.

I beg to differ there Kizzy.I have eaten squirrel in a terrine.

i would sooner the country eat horse where it is bred proberly and killed humanly rather than eat say fros grax(dont think that is quite the correct spelling)
Sam

I used to eat horse in Holland in soup until i found out what it was, bleugh!  I know its daft but I just couldn't bring myself to eat it when I knew what it was. Smoked horse meat is a normal sandwich filler over there
Chepfer

Horse is nice, i've had it in France.

In india (as you probably know) they dont' eat cows as they are the sacred creature !.
GTB

I've got no problems with eating horse as long as it's well treated during its life.
Bear

I dont have a problem with eating any meat and the way in which the "normal" meat (Beef,Pork & Lamb) prices have gone up recently perhaps we should look at eating some of these other types of meat
GTB

If prices get really bad we may have to start eating the unemployed.

I've eaten squirrel which is quite flavoursome.
kathy27

:pukeright:  Have you seen some of the unemployed, some look like they are well past their sell by date, if that happens i will turn veggie!
Bear

The trouble with some of the unemployed is that they can be full of artificial additives like heroin etc. prefer the organic unemployed myself
Block67

          - nicely put Bear!

I have had horse meat in France some years back, didn't mind it at all.   smiling  , no,  Big Smile , one less on the road!
Trouble with this country most view a horse as a pet, so it may take a long time before we see it in sainsbury's!
GTB

I've seen rabbit sold in most supermarkets (the horrid, bland stuff that is farmed) and they are more cuddly as a pet than a smelly horse.
