should there be a minimal price for alcohol?

if it was inforced would it drop the binge drinking what britan seems to have a problem with?

If the government said it was going to increase tax on petrol and diesel by say 60p a litre to try and stop young drivers racing round like mad people what would you say.
Why should the mild mannered sensible drinkers pay for this binge drinking culture that seams to be affecting this country.

The cross channel ferry companies would benefit from a surge in business as everyone would be looking to buy cheap booze from the continent.

A car and up to 5 passergers will cost in the region of £50.00 for a return crossing (a tenner each). Last year you could buy 24 cans of Stella for £12.00 on most ferries. 50p for a large can not a bad deal as long as you did not drink it all before you got home!

I don't think that this is a sound idea and not even this out of touch government will introduce it.

Alcohol costs a fortune in Scandinavia and they still have binge drinking....

It isn't just about cost it is about our attitude to alcohol in this country that is the problem and it goes back centuries.......we lost the Battle of Hastings because the troops were hungover from the night before!!!

Whilst I don't disagree with your basic arguement the
Normans "got lucky" with an arrow and the "saxons" panicked.
Its the same every year during the six nations rugby but more often or not the roles have been reversed ie last saturday.

I personally think it should be illegal for people to sell booze at a loss.

It was also fatigue from having just fought a battle at Stamford Bridge (no, not the Chelsea lot!   ).

I think the idea of having a minimum price on alcohol is a ridiculous idea. This country is already becoming a nanny state without the powers that be rationing our wine and beer to those who have money and those who don't.

If they are going to do anything about sorting out teenage drinking then why not lessen the tax levy on pubs where consumption can be monitored and pass it on to the supermarkets and offlicences?

I think they are talking about the 4 litres of white diamond cider for 79p.

You don't buy that for the taste now do you?

Do you know anyone who drinks Special Brew out of taste choice?

I can see your point about cheap strong cider but why hit everyone with a blanket tax? Why not just raise the age you can buy alcohol in shops to 21 like a lot of shops already have? There is one shop in Chippenham who were not serving alcohol to people under the age of 25 as a way of cutting down on teenage drinking.

tesco in chippenham last week was offering 16 bottles of calsburg for 6 quid in the tescos at calne for 8 bottles was a fiver
