seen various pieces of footage now looks a tad excessive, but who knows what happened prior to the video clip wether the police were shouting clear the area or whatever. he looked like a normal person on his normal daily routine.
the police were in a no win situation that day, if theyd have left him and he had done something straight after they would have been done for not reacting

I'm sure we will learn more about this event during the course of time when an inquest is held into the matter.

viewing the tapes, yes he should be punished, more so as he was in a position of trust. Wearing a uniform doesn't give anyone the right to harm others, and if an ordinary member of the public had done it, they would of been arrested straight away and would expect a prison sentence.
Although these things dont happen too often, some of the "modern" police officers do get heavy handed at the slightest thing.
There have been instances of coppers putting people on the floor merely because they have said something (not always abusive i hasten to add). Fine if the individual in question appears or has been aggressive and abusive, but then how many officers does it take? -two, or as many as is available?
Digressing somewhat, and possibly starting a new thread, I also think it is a bad mistake issuing some police with mace, as some individuals use it before the need arises.
This day and age, I dont envy the policemans job, but some need to review their practices.
