Should it be preserved or left to crumble?http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7842671.stm
Auschwitz costs to preserve the site are huge.

Re: Should it be preserved or left to crumble?Absolutely preserve it : I don't know anyone that hasn't been there that hasn't been moved. Not visited it myself yet (been to some other places in Germany) but probably will one day, if it is still there.

I can see both perspectives.
Of course it's a moving place and perhaps should be preserved to remind humanity of what is right and what is wrong.
But
Would you get the same sentiment from visiting the garden of fred wests victims ?!.
Morbid facination in humans is a bizzare psychological area.
Tell me ..... Why would you want to visit it ?.
What do you think you may get from the experiance ?
Would letting it rot and having a memorial be a better solution ?
I'm not sure either way !

you ask a question there chepfer i probably would want to visit it for the wrong reasons as i do have a morbid fascinations.with things like that I would visit it to see how the people died what they did with the body's after and how the place was run.
if the building was left to rot then it would be a great shame if preserved and used for a museum that wouldn't be so bad.if not then for it to be destroyed and a memorial garden in its place something which is beautiful.

They have to be preserved lest we forget the suffering because when it is forgotten it is more likely to happen again.
