Saturday 23rd February 2008Firstly Arsenal and that tackle.
Terrrible injury cant say I think that it was malicious in any way I think Eduardo was just too quick for Martin Taylor. Interesting that the man who never sees an incident so this one clear as day although he has I believe retracted his initial statement that Taylor should be banned for life.
Poor result in the end is it me or are Arsenal looking a bit shaky at the moment.

Newcastle 1 Manchester U. 5
A combination of Newcastle being poor and United being excellent. The result was never in doubt. I believe United can catch Arsenal and it looks awful for Newcastle because even though they are still 13th in the table they are in free fall and if they dont look out they could end up getting relegated.

Liverpool 3 Middlesbrough 2
Good result for Liverpool who are now back in 4th place, a Champions League qualifying spot. However they made hard work of it and if it hadnt been for two absolute howling errors by Boro they might well have lost. All is not well at Anfield.

A real pity about Eduardo's leg. Like Bear has stated, there is a lot of similar tackles week in - week out in the Premiership that go un-noticed by the referees and usually end without injury but occaisionally a player is severely hurt as in this case. Making a two footed challenge is an automatic yellow card offence and in some cases tackles like this has warranted a yellow card. The thing wrong with football at the present is that too many players feign injury to get opposing players booked or sent off and referees are taking a line that gamesmanship is now too prevelent and ignoring some tackles which may be deemed as cheating. An example of this could be seen during the Man Utd v Newcastle match yesterday; Nani dribbles past three players upto the penalty box and falls over under a very weak tackle and the ref' quite rightly allows play to carry on, Newcastle then start an attack (one of the rare occurances they did manage to get into the Utd half) where James Milner goes past two Utd players and falls over on the penalty box byline under a very weak challenge - which again the ref allows the play to continue. It's this sort of gamesmanship that is not only spoiling it for the fans but also will do no credit to the professional player when they really do get injured and the ref thinks they are faking it!

I forgot to say that I have Torres (scored a hat-trick) and Ronaldo (scored two and created one goal) in my fantasy football team. 8)
