Devizes white horse is the odd one out. It is one of four in the country to face a different way.
Nice to bring a bit of history to the forum, Rosco. There is, as far as I'm aware, only three battle sites in Wiltshire; one is Roundway in 1643 but where are the other two??

think you got mixed up LocalLass
they all face left in Wiltshire bar one the new one in Devizes (Hopton)

It is on Roundway Hill to the north of Devizes, overlooking the village of Roundway. This horse is the only one in Wiltshire, and one of only four in Britain, to face to the right

That's hardly fair - wouldn't be able to contribute almost anything to this forum without good old Google!

Ok, I will tell you.
There has been three battles in Wiltshire:
1. Roundway down 1643
2. Battle of Edington 878
3. Battle of Bedwyn 675
There has been numerous skirmishes but I'm pretty sure that these are the only three that are classified as battles. If anyone else knows different then I'd love to hear from them.
