ResignationAnother Calne Town Councillor resigned today.
Emily Pieroux (Conservative) was the youngest councillor elected in 2007 and represented Quemerford ward.
If 10 or more voters write in requesting an election then a bye-election will be held. It is unlikely that this will happen on the 4th June as the authorities prefer not to have 3 elections on the same day.
If there is less than 10 requests then the Town Council can co-opt some one.
This is the 3rd bye-election since the May 2007 elections and each one is an expensive process.
So far there it is 2 UKIP and 1 Conservative in the resignation stakes!

What was the reason for her resignation?

I am not aware of that, a reason does not have to be given when one resigns.

Though from what i have heard, she was a bit of a wanderer and was in it more for the "Status" than actually doing any council work ?!

I am not sure that this is applicable in this case but unfortunately there are always some of them in all councils.
Parties unable to find enough serious candidates put up "paper" candidates rather than let other parties have an unopposed councillor elected.
Then there is the surprise when these paper candidates get elected.
Normally the least effort the candidate/party make in canvassing indicates that that person is a paper candidate and not serious about being elected.
Of course the wards for the Unitary Authority are much larger than those for the Town Council so it will be diffilcult to see every voter between now and June 4th.

I understand that a bye-election in Quemerford Ward will now take place the date is yet to be announced. It is highly unlikely, but not impossible, that it will take place on the 4th June as we already have elections for the European Parliament and the new Unitary Council.
August is considered to be a holiday period so it either in July or more likely September/October.
